In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Susan H Carmichael is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Mississippi. She has devoted over fifteen years to providing clinical services to underserved populations. She has worked with individuals in all stages of development and with a plethora of clinical presentations. During her time with community mental health she also served in a number of supervisory and administrative positions, with oversight of grant procurement, program evaluation, staff development, quality assurance, supervision and training, human resources, licensure and certification, policies and procedures, and outcome measures. She is a frequent public speaker, has published regularly in texts and journals, and is a former member of the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors. Susan joined Walden University in the role of Contributing Faculty in 2010, moved into an Academic Coordinator role in 2018, and became the Director of Field Experience for the School of Counseling in 2020.
