Steve Morreale serves as an Associate Professor (appointed Full Professor, effective September 2018) and Chair of the Criminal Justice Department at Worcester State University (WSU). He served as the elected chair of the WSU All University Committee for 6 years. He is also affiliated with Walden University in the Doctoral Program for Public Policy and Administration and Roger Williams University – Justice System Training and Research Institute (RWU). At RWU, he serves as lead instructor for Executive Development, focused on leadership development, strategic planning, ethics and decision making in training sessions for criminal justice professionals at the first-line, mid-managers and executives in New England and with the Leadership Institute for Leaders with the Gabelli School of Business at RWU.

Dr. Morreale served in law enforcement for 30 years, having retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Investigations, Inspector General. For nearly 20 years, he served with the Drug Enforcement Administration, serving as a special agent and managing agent I enforcement groups, the Lowell Task Force and as Chief of the Asset Forfeiture and Financial Investigations Section in New England. He served with the Dover, New Hampshire Police Department the U.S. Army Military Police Corps.

Dr. Morreale serves as the lead management consultant and major case coordinator for a Medicare Program Safeguard Contractor (HP and DXC, Inc.) focused on healthcare fraud in both Florida and California.

While at HHS-Investigations, Steve supervised and coordinated complex and far-reaching investigations focusing on healthcare fraud, which included pharmaceutical fraud. He also oversaw investigations into false reporting, schemes to defraud various health care programs, grant and research fraud, obstruction of audits, obstruction of justice, contract fraud, contractor and provider fraud, conflicts of interest, and substandard quality of care of elders leading to serious harm or death.

He is the Past-President of the Northeastern Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, a founder and past-President of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Justice Education. He now serves as Chair of the Police Section for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Municipal Police Institute, the training arm for the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.

He has also served as a reviewer for academic programs and is a rostered for the Fulbright Specialist Program, an Academic Foreign Exchange Program through the U.S. Department of State.

Steve was an elected Town official, serving as Town Moderator and former Chair of the Town Personnel Board for 15 years in his hometown in Central Massachusetts.

In 2001, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Secretary of U.S. Health and Human Services for his role in responding and leading a team of agents to assist in disaster relief and recovery at the site of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.

He lectures and publishes regularly in the area of the Scholarship of Teaching, policing, health care fraud, leadership, leader development, ethics, strategic planning, decision-making and organizational change, focused on both the public and private sectors.

Dr. Morreale holds a doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He holds himself as a “pracademic” an academic with significant practical experience.
