In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Huffman is a Professional School Counselor and Educator with 21 years of professional experience. She has work as an educator and school counselor in Alabama public school district since 1999, teaching secondary English and providing school counseling services to elementary students. Establishing the next phase in her professional career as a Counselor Educator, since 2015 as an adjunct professor, she has taught graduate students pursuing degrees in counseling at several universities. At Walden University, Dr. Huffman serves as Contributing Faculty for College of Social and Behavioral Sciences-School of Counseling.
Dr. Huffman research interests centers on serving marginalized and diverse student populations in K-12 schools through school counseling to include special needs students, students in foster care system, students in poverty, and students of diverse ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Huffman has participated in presentations at several conferences and local school/district workshops including Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA) Conference and Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES) Conference and has had a publication in Journal of Asia Pacific Counseling, as part of a research team. Dr. Huffman serves on ALCA Executive Board has been recognized as ALCA Emerging Leader, ALCA division-Alabama Career Development Association President, and ALCA annual Conference Co-chair. Recently, Dr. Huffman has become a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor.
She has an earned Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Counselor Education and Supervision from Auburn University, Auburn, AL; Education Specialist Degree (EdS) and Masters of Education Degree (MEd) with a concentration in School Counseling and ; Masters Degree (MEd) in English Language Arts (6-12) from Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL; Masters Degree (MEd) in Educational Leadership-Instructional Leader from Auburn University Montgomery, Montgomery, AL; Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) –Alabama; National Board Certified Counselor (NCC) and National Board Certified School Counselor (NCSC)-National Board of Certified Counselor (NBCC); Class AA Certified School Counselor and Class A certified Educational Leader and Professional Educator- Alabama State Department of Education.
