Sonya DiCiro has been a Board Certified Family nurse practitioner since 1997, receiving her Master's degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in May 1997. She has a DNP from Walden University, graduating in August 2023. She is currently practicing in an OB/GYN FQHC in rural southeast Missouri. Sonya began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse in 1983 after graduating from an Associate Degree nursing program. She then received her BSN and MSN while working as an RN and raising her family. Sonya has been a CDCES~Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist for 38 years and has worked with diabetes patients in the hospital and outpatient settings teaching diabetes and insulin pump therapy. She has RN and APRN licenses in Missouri and Minnesota. Sonya has had experience as a clinical preceptor with many nurse practitioner students in her private practice and is now a Contributing Faculty with Walden University. For the last eight years, Sonya has been a part-time aesthetic injector.

Sonya has experience with varied courses during her time at Walden University. She has taught Primary care of Adults Across the Lifespan, Care of Older Adults, Advanced Nursing Care Reproductive Practicum, and didactic courses, Synthesis of Advanced Practice. She is a kind and caring faculty with a heart for education. She truly wants her students to understand nursing care and concepts. Sonya is honored to be a part of the development of a new generation of nurses.

Sonya enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, photography, and traveling. She is a wife, mother of 3, and grandmother of 3. Sonya is a board member for Recycling Grace, a charitable organization helping women break the cycle of addiction and become productive members of society. Sonya believes nursing is a calling and is proud to be a member of this wonderful profession.
