Shawn Parmanand is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Doctor of Counselor Education and Counseling (PhD), and is a proud graduate of Idaho State University. Dr. Parmanand is currently a Core Faculty member in the Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling Program at Walden University. He has been a Counselor Educator for over seven years, teaching a variety of courses and engaging in various scholarship opportunities while maintaining a thriving private practice. Dr. Parmanand has presented on a variety of topics locally, nationally, and internationally. He has presented papers focusing on gatekeeping, religion and spirituality, and pedagogical practices. He is particularly interested in lowering the power dynamic between student and teacher inherent in counselor education. Currently, Dr. Parmanand is focused on researching and understanding the importance of infusing the clinical work and expertise of educators into counselor training and the role of self disclosure in that process. In addition to his faculty pursuits, Dr. Parmanand maintains a private practice where he sees a variety of populations. His main clinical focus is working with couples who are experiencing difficulties related to infertility in addition to a variety of other relational challenges. Clinically, Dr. Parmanand enjoys group counseling, couples counseling, and working with those that have been impacted by sexual abuse while utilizing an Emotionally Focused Therapeutic theoretical stance when working with clients.
