Dr. Sandra Fonseca is an IT, Cybersecurity Auditor, and Project Manager, with over 30 years of professional and 25 years of academic experience. Dr. Fonseca, a native from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, USA is a proud daughter, wife, and mother of one, currently being the caretaker of both parents, while finishing a second doctoral degree. Of the 30 years of professional IT experience, 3 were from being a programmer/developer, 13 were dedicated as a systems and database administrator, 15 as a systems security manager, and 2 as a data architect, before transitioning full-time to academia. Dr. Fonseca has worked for state, and federal government, ground higher learning institutions as an associate professor, and later as a program director and full professor for a full-online institution.
She has taught at all levels, from associate degree courses to senior doctoral chair and program director overseeing MSIT and Cybersecurity programs. She strongly advocates professional organizations and certifications, fostering and coaching students and professionals to earn professional certifications. She has also advised on curriculum design and assessment, and quality assurance for university accreditation self-studies and reports.
As for her academic background, Dr. Fonseca received her first doctoral degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Management Information Systems from Ana G. Mendez University, Gurabo Campus, PR in 2009. She is finishing her second dissertation towards a Doctor of Education degree in Instructional Design from National University. She also holds a Cybersecurity Best Practices Graduate Diploma from the University of Fairfax (2014), an Information Technology Auditing Graduate Certificate (2004), and a Masters of Information Systems (MIS) degree from EDP University, PR, and a Bachelor's degree with a concentration on Computer Information Systems from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, PR.
She enjoys reading sci-fi and fiction novels. She is a "Who vian" a fan of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, and a "Trekie" fan of the Star Trek series. Playing the guitar, and sewing are other interests, although these days there’s not enough time, but enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, for family comes first. Reading and playing the guitar is my decompression and meditation therapy.
