In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Rochelle Petermann is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Core Faculty in the School of Counseling at Walden University, with a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision. Her professional credentials include National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Mental Health Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. She earned her doctoral and master’s degrees from Capella University and completed her undergraduate studies at Liberty University.
Her counseling experience spans both community mental health and hospital settings. She now operates a thriving private practice where she works with individuals, couples, and families. In addition, Dr. Petermann serves as an Approved Clinical Supervisor in the state of Georgia, guiding and mentoring counseling interns and pre-licensed professionals on their path to licensure.
Dr. Petermann previously served on the Board of Trustees at Capella University as a student representative and remains deeply committed to community service. She volunteers as a Disaster Relief Counselor and has coached swimming for over 20 years at her local YMCA. Her professional interests include telehealth, child and adolescent development, behavioral interventions, ADHD, autism spectrum support, ethical practice, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.
Based in Phenix City, Alabama, near the Georgia state line, Dr. Petermann balances her personal and professional life across the Central and Eastern Time Zones. She has been married for 35 years and is the proud mother of two adult children and six grandchildren. Outside of her clinical work and teaching, she enjoys camping, spending time outdoors, caring for her six pets, and cheering on her favorite team as a dedicated Roll Tide football fan.
