Robin Saunders

Dr. Robin Saunders graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with a concentration in psychology. Dr. Saunders went on to earn her Master of Social Work degree and Ph.D. in Social Welfare in the School of Social Work at the University of Buffalo. She has over 25 years of experience in the field of child welfare. As a practitioner, she spent most of her career working in New York State with families and children involved with the public child welfare system due to child abuse and/or neglect. In addition, she is committed to the education and training of public child welfare workers to improve outcomes for families and children. Dr. Saunders has over 17 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in traditional, hybrid and online learning environments. Her primary areas of research examine multilevel (individual, family, community and societal) factors that contribute to child welfare issues and predict outcomes for children and families. Most recently, she has explored the experiences of LGBTQ identified youth with previous involvement with the child welfare system who are currently experiencing homelessness. Dr. Saunders has presented her work at local, national and international social work and child welfare conferences. She has published her work in leading child welfare journals including Children and Youth Services Review and Child Welfare.
