Dr. Phyllis D. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Florida State University and her Master of Science in Primary Ambulatory Care Nursing from Hampton University School of Nursing. She made history as Hampton University’s first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing graduate and is recognized as the first recipient of a PhD in Nursing from a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) worldwide. She later completed a post-doctoral fellowship in health disparities research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
Dr. Morgan is a highly respected nurse educator, nurse practitioner, and nurse researcher. She has served as a nurse educator since 2004 and has been a board-certified nurse educator since 2011. She is Senior Core Faculty for the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialty in the Walden University College of Nursing. A certified family nurse practitioner for 26 years, Dr. Morgan has practiced in a wide range of clinical settings, including college health, women’s health, primary care, military care, retail health, and urgent care. She is also a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Morgan’s research centers on health issues affecting African American men and women. She has received multiple awards, published extensively, and presented her work at national and international conferences. She has also secured several grants focused on addressing health disparities among African American populations.
Her expertise has been highlighted through national media engagement, including interviews on SiriusXM Radio in 2021 and 2022 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2022–2023, Dr. Morgan was selected for the inaugural cohort of the National League for Nursing and Walden University College of Nursing Social Determinants of Health & Social Change Leadership Institute.
