In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Nkenge Pruden has more than 20 years of experience in violence prevention across military and federal settings. She holds a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology with post-graduate training in forensic applications.
Her career includes leadership in program management and development, risk mitigation, threat assessment, and instructional design. She has developed and implemented workplace violence prevention strategies, conducted behavioral risk assessments, and advised multidisciplinary teams on managing concerning and threatening behaviors. As a Certified Master Trainer in National Threat Evaluation and Reporting she continues to deliver training on threat assessment, trauma-informed response, and sexual assault prevention and response, and consults with organizational leadership on interventions that help institutions recognize and respond effectively to behavioral risk.
A retired U.S. Air Force veteran, Dr. Pruden’s research and professional interests include trauma-informed care and investigative techniques, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, victimology, sexual predator behaviors, bystander intervention, motivational interviewing, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
