In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. A passionate faculty member, educator, and mentor, Dr. Alexander has 30 years of healthcare and higher education experience. She is dedicated to supporting the success of adult learners pursuing public health graduate degrees. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences earned in 2008, complemented by a Master of Public Health with a specialization in Environmental and Occupational Health attained in 1999 and a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management in 1997. Her academic journey led her to join Walden University's School of Health Sciences, Public Health Faculty, in 2011.
At Walden, Dr. Alexander has demonstrated her expertise through a range of courses, including Environmental Health: Local to Global, Perspectives of Health, Foundations for Doctoral Success in Public Health, Perspectives on Health, Essentials of Public Health, Principles of Health Communication, and Program Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. Additionally, she instructs Practicum I and Practicum II: Capstone Experience in Public Health. She chairs several public health capstone committees for doctoral students, serves as a Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate student mentor, and works on a variety of programmatic and university-level task groups and advisory councils. Beyond Walden, Dr. Alexander has enriched the educational landscape by teaching diverse subjects like Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology, Health Policy and Politics, Sports, Nutrition, and Weight Management, and Nutrition and Chronic Disease at various institutions.
Dr. Alexander's career has been marked by additional impactful roles. Prior to joining Walden, she served as the Chronic Disease Program Evaluator at the Florida Department of Health for many years. Other prior roles include human subject’s clinical research coordination, contract and grant administration, as well as healthcare data analytics and claims operations.
