In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Natashia L. Conner is a public health scholar, educator, and maternal–infant health equity strategist with a strong commitment to advancing health equity through research, education, and community-engaged practice. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Health Education and Promotion from Walden University, where her research focused on behavioral health and maternal–infant health equity. She also earned a Master of Science (MS) in Health Education and Promotion with a concentration in Public Health from the University of Cincinnati, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Maternal Child Health from Union Institute & University, and an Associate of Applied Business (AAB) in Medical Administrative Technologies from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
With over a decade of experience spanning local and state government, community-based organizations, boards of health, faith-based institutions, and public and private health systems, Dr. Conner brings a multidisciplinary and systems-level perspective to addressing health disparities. Her work integrates research, program development, and policy-informed practice to improve maternal and infant health outcomes, particularly within marginalized communities.
Dr. Conner’s expertise lies in designing and implementing equity-centered, community-driven interventions that bridge gaps in care, strengthen health systems, and promote sustainable change. As an educator and practitioner, she is dedicated to cultivating culturally responsive, socially conscious professionals while advancing evidence-based solutions that address the structural determinants of health.
