In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Mickey Washburn graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration while majoring in Accounting. He spent 21 years in working with a non-profit, finance, insurance and investments before entering the education field. In 1998, he started working as a high school mathematics teacher and completed his Masters in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University in 2000. In 2003, he completed his National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adult Mathematics and then in 2008 completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in Mathematics Education. He worked with the Gwinnett County Public Schools for 22 years, retiring three years ago and with Walden University in the Richard Riley College of Education and Leadership since November 2008.
