In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Michelle Stallone Brown is a faculty member in the Riley College of Education and Human Sciences. With over 25 years in higher education, Dr. Brown has served as associate dean, program director, research coordinator, and professor of educational leadership. Her professional focus centers on advancing student retention, persistence, and degree completion by championing student-centered teaching practices and leveraging data-driven strategies.
Dr. Brown earned her doctorate through the Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She completed her undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, followed by a master’s degree from Baylor University. Her broad expertise spans service in higher education, statistical analysis work for government agencies, and several years as a K-12 educator in Pennsylvania and Texas. Her current research interests include online instructional support and tools for student success in research.
