In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Melvia E. Scott is a distinguished educator and industry professional. She is a part-time contributing faculty member at the Doctor of Business Administration College of Management and Human Potential.
Dr. Scott holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Management from Bethune-Cookman University. Her formal teaching areas include Organizational Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Strategy and Innovation, and Executive Leadership Development. With over a decade of teaching experience, she excels in guiding students through the intricacies of dissertation writing and defense.
Beyond academia, Dr. Scott has substantial professional experience in the real estate sector as a Florida Realtor with Keller Williams South Shore, where she specializes in client representation, property marketing, and negotiation. Additionally, she has held managerial roles in non-profit organizations and retail operations, demonstrating a versatile skill set in administrative support, financial management, and staff supervision.
Dr. Scott's primary research interests lie in employee retention strategies, organizational leadership, and innovative business practices. She has co-authored publications such as "Strategies for Retaining Employees in the Hospitality Industry" and is an active Women in Business Education member.
Recognized for her excellence in teaching and mentorship, Dr. Scott has received multiple accolades, including the Outstanding Faculty and Mentor of the Year awards for 2023 and 2024 and the Stephen Shank Recognition Award in 2022,serving as part-time faculty at Capella University School of Business, Technology, & Healthcare and Columbia International University. She remains committed to advancing business education through curriculum development, strategic planning, and professional development initiatives.
In her consulting role, Dr. Scott provides comprehensive support as a Virtual Dissertation Consultant and Research Methodologist, aiding clients in research methodology selection, data analysis, literature review, and academic writing.
