In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Melanie L. Braswell
Dr. Melanie Braswell’s formal training is a Doctor of Nursing Practice. She has served in various roles over her 30+ year career. Dr. Braswell stated as Registered Nurse, Surgical Services. She then served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Perioperative Services. She was the Director of Undergraduate Programs. She then moved to become an Advanced Practice Nurse of Perioperative Services. She is now a Lead Advanced Practice Provider and Contributing Faculty member at Walden University. At Walden University, she teaches or has taught Topics in Clinical Nursing, Issues and Trends in Nursing, Management Care for Positive Patient Outcomes, and DNP Project Mentoring. Dr. Braswell has served on numerous doctoral student dissertation committees.
Dr. Braswell’s current research interests focus primarily on administration, leadership, patient education, quality and safety, quality improvement, LEAN methods, Perioperative, Intensive care, evidence-based practices, Magnet, and nursing education. She has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences. Dr. Braswell has published over numerous articles as well as book chapters on perioperative nursing topics, patient education, leadership, quality improvements, LEAN in healthcare, evidence-based practices and nursing education. She has served on local, state, and national boards. She has been recognized as a Daisy Award winner, Excellence in Nursing Award, Delta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, Aspen Award, Service Learning Faculty Development grantee, Excellence in Teaching, and the Enhancement Award.
