In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Mary completed her masters and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at Ohio University. Prior to her career in higher education, she worked as a clinician specializing in community mental health and the treatment of persons with severe and chronic mental illnesses. In addition to her duties as a contributing faculty member at Walden, she is also an Associate Professor and the Chairperson for the Psychology Department at Sinclair College in Dayton Ohio. At Sinclair, Mary served as a Campus Lead for the Completion by Design Initiative and as a coach for the Ohio Student Success Leadership Institute. She led the development of structured academic pathways for the degree programs at Sinclair and has served as a coordinator for Liberal Arts Career Community and as a Faculty Fellow for Center for Teaching and Learning. Mary regularly presents at conferences and colleges on the topic of guided pathways and faculty engagement. Her research interests include academic hope theory and the impact of teacher empathy on student success.
