Dr. Mary Kropiewnicki’s formal training is in teacher development and educational leadership where she has served in various roles for her 30+ year career. Dr. Kropiewnicki served as a teacher, reading specialist, and elementary and middle school principal in K-12 public and private schools in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She then served as a department chair, assistant dean, and dean in private and state institutions of higher education in Pennsylvania and Georgia. In these roles, Dr. Kropiewnicki taught courses related to undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation and professional development and educational leadership at the masters and doctoral levels. Dr. Kropiewnicki developed numerous programs and courses including serving as the founding chair of a doctoral program in educational leadership. She previously served as a member of the institutional strategic planning steering committee, as a chair and member of university curriculum and assessment committees; as IRB chair and member; and as university liaison for regional and program reaccreditation. Dr. Kropiewnicki completed a fellowship on educational policy with the Education Policy and Leadership Center in Pennsylvania. At Walden University, her primary role is to mentor doctoral students as a dissertation chair and committee member and to teach courses to prepare students for research in both EdD and PhD programs. She is involved in course development for the redesign of the EdD program at Walden and served on the CAP committee for the College of Education and Human Services at Walden.

Dr. Kropiewnicki’s research and teaching interests are primarily in educational leadership with a focus on ethics and policy; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and issues of access and equity in education. She has presented at numerous conferences including the American Educational Research Association and the Consortium for the Study of Leadership and Ethics in Education. She received over 4.9 million dollars in post-secondary grant awards from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the development of programs leading to the development of highly qualified teachers.
