Dr. Bemker is core faculty at Walden University where she teaches MSN students evidence based practice. She has taught at the graduate level for over 25 years and also worked in community health with high-risk youths and adolescents for over 20 years. She started a counseling and development department for a Fortune 500 company which she headed for a number of years. In addition, she has a private practice with specializations in addictions, PTSD and trauma issues, and family dynamics. She co-edited and wrote several chapters in seven nursing textbooks. The first edition population health textbook was selected as the 2018 AJN Book of the Year for advanced practice nurses. The other texts address the development and execution of a DNP project and how to disseminate the results, teaching and mentoring the DNP project, resiliency in nursing, advanced nursing leadership, and a revised population health text. Two of the texts are in press and expected to be published this year. The revised edition is slated for a 2024 publication. Dr. Bemker is a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer, associate editor for MERLOT, former lead for Disaster Mental Health (American Red Cross Kentuckiana Chapter) and offers Services to the Armed Forces via workshops and community outreach through the American Red Cross. She is an international speaker, and presents several times each year at professional conferences and community events. Dr. Bemker is a Paul Harris Fellow, Henderson Fellow and a Fellow in the American Association of Social Psychiatry. She serves on two professional boards. Her primary research interests include resiliency, adolescent health, substance use disorders, PTSD, and cultural competency.
