Dr. Marlon Sukal has over two decades of leadership experience in retail, healthcare, and higher education industries. As a senior member of HRMD at GW, Dr. Sukal reports to the Chief People Officer responsible for leading and overseeing strategic initiatives to support an engaging organizational environment that motivates, attracts and retains a high performing university workforce. Provide leadership to developing the highest levels of workforce talent management and competence in the areas of people development by offering a broad array of organizational development functions, as well as overseeing employee orientation and onboarding succession planning, performance management, learning and development, employee engagement, selection, culture change and HR communication.

His most recent role was at the University of Texas Medical Branch where he led Talent and Organizational Development. There he helped develop high performing teams using organizational development techniques to help with their strategy, leadership, synergy and performance outcomes. He created a succession planning mentorship program for high potential/performing employees as a pipeline to leadership. He designed, developed, and implemented a management learning and development program for managers. He coached and developed leaders, physicians, faculty and teams on leadership, communication, and teamwork. He championed the annual employee engagement survey and pulse surveys followed by action planning and interventions across problem areas.

As a consultant for over 15 years, Marlon has fulfilled various functions in individual, group and organizational assessment; selection and performance systems; instrument/survey development and validation; leadership development; strategic planning; process improvement; job analysis; and team-building interventions.

As an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist, Marlon has been an associate professor of higher education for over a decade, he has developed and taught a variety of courses ranging from talent management, leadership development, workforce planning, and organizational development at several graduate institutions.

He holds a PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from The California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles, and an MBA from National University, San Diego. He is an experienced Executive Coach with certifications in Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Resolution, Leadership Development, and Team Assessment.

Marlon enjoys free time with his wife Ana, and children Andrew, Daniel, Joseph, and Isabella. For fun he does triathlons for charitable causes.
