In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Lacourt served as a school counselor for 18 years, working with middle and high school students. In this capacity, he specialized in career & crisis counseling and led multidisciplinary teams in problem-solving to assist students. He has expertise in suicide postvention as well as the use of coping mechanisms to help students mediate stress. He taught counseling courses in online and traditional settings as an adjunct since 2007 and currently serves as an Academic Coordinator in the Field Experience Department of the School of Counseling.
Dr. Lacourt completed his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University in 2018 and wrote his dissertation "A Phenomenological Exploration into the Resiliency of Prostate Cancer Survivors." As a prostate cancer survivor, he coordinated multiple cancer awareness events in his community and continues to run a support group for survivors. He is also regularly involved in community social change efforts.
Dr. Lacourt was born and lived in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, until his family moved to Ohio at the age of 9. He still lives in Ohio with his spouse of 30+years. Together they have 5 adult kids.
