In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Kathy A. McCaleb’s formal training (AS in Science, BSN, MSN, and PHD) is in nursing with a clinical specialty in Pediatric Nursing and a functional role focus in Education and Leadership. She has served in various roles in both academia and practice settings over her 40+ year career. Dr. McCaleb has served in Academic Leadership positions such as Chair of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Partnerships. Likewise, her most recent Health Care Setting Leadership position was Administrative Director for a Center of Nursing Excellence within an academic medical center health system. Dr. McCaleb’s expertise in curriculum and program evaluation as well as healthcare organization assessment was realized in such positions as onsite evaluator for both the National League for Nursing (NLN) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). For over a decade, Dr. McCaleb served as a Team Leader and member for onsite evaluation of hospitals seeking the ANCC-American Nurses Association Magnet Recognition Award.
Dr. McCaleb joined the Walden University Contributing Faculty in 2012 in the master’s curriculum track now known as the Nursing Executive and Leadership Master’s Program. Courses most often taught include: Strategic Planning for Health Care Organizations and the final Synthesis Practicum Course. Dr. McCaleb’s teaching experience and contributions over the 40+ years has included Nursing Professional Development and Continuing Education in the practice setting as well as academic programs at the Baccalaureate, Masters, and doctoral levels.
