In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. With a background in school, addiction, ands clinical mental health counseling, Dr. Kathy Goss Atanasov is a Contributing Faculty Member in the School of Counseling at Walden University. Since 2018, she has taught COUN 6001, COUN 6111S, COUN 6370, COUN 6101, and Pre-Practicum at Walden. Dr. Atanasov has also taught practicum, career counseling, and substance abuse and society at the College of William & Mary prior to joining Walden.
After a decade working in adult literacy and information technology, Dr. Atanasov started her counseling career as a high school counselor (M.Ed, William & Mary, 2007), and later specialized in clinical mental health and addiction counseling during her doctorate (Ph.D, William & Mary, 2016). Dr. Atanasov has worked with adolescents and adults in several clinical settings including public schools, a college addictions clinic, and a local court system, residential and outpatient addiction centers, and in private practice.
In addition to her work at Walden, Dr. Atanasov is the owner of Therapy Owls, a small group practice in Williamsburg, VA. She continues to work at a residential addictions center on Fridays. Dr. Atanasov's ideal job is to teach part-time and counsel part-time.
Dr. Atanasov is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor in the State of Virginia. She is certified in EMDR and Brainspotting.
