Dr. Cathey joined Walden University as contributing faculty in their mental health counseling program. She has 8 years practicing counseling and more than 11 years of teaching, supervising, advising, and mentoring counseling students, including experience regarding CACREP accreditation and leading the capstone projects of counseling doctoral students. Her specialization area is multicultural issues and development around counseling, supervision, and counselor education. As a counselor, she worked with adolescents, college students, and older adults in varying work settings and while providing both pastoral counseling and clinical counseling. As a counselor educator, she has been responsible for putting together a counseling program's student handbook, clinical training handbook, and site supervisor training handbook. And she has been a clinical training coordinator, exit exam coordinator, NBCC liaison for her campus’ counseling programs, and a guidance counseling program coordinator in counseling during her tenure in higher education along with presenting at both local and national counseling conferences. Dr. Cathey is a licensed professional counselor and board qualified supervisor (LPC-S) and a national approved clinical supervisor (ACS).
