In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Jullie Gray earned her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California, where her research addressed the Grand Challenge of Social Work to Eradicate Social Isolation Among People Living with Dementia. She also holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work with a specialization in healthcare from the University of Washington, where she later completed a Certificate in Geriatric Mental Health.
A Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Washington State and a Nationally Certified Care Manager, Dr. Gray has devoted over 30 years to advancing social work practice. Her career integrates leadership and clinical expertise across diverse health and human service settings, including acute and emergency care, hospice, community-based care management, inpatient psychiatry, primary care, community health clinics, and practice management. She has worked with clients across the lifespan.
An entrepreneur and innovator, Dr. Gray founded and operated a care management practice for nearly two decades, serving older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their families. She has also served as a guardian ad litem for vulnerable adults and as an expert witness in cases involving elder abuse and undue influence. Dr. Gray has also served in leadership roles on various nonprofit and community advisory boards.
Her professional interests include healthcare, aging, dementia, care management, ethics, leadership, human-centered design, and education. Dr. Gray’s work is grounded in a comprehensive and compassionate approach that unites relationship-centered and evidence-informed practice. She is deeply committed to advancing social justice and promoting meaningful change across both individual relationships and the broader social landscape.
Dr. Gray serves as a contributing faculty member in the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work, where she teaches classes in micro and macro practice.
