In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Professionally Joe Perez, Ed.D. served as the Tampa District Manager for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants; a state government regulatory agency responsible for regulating the hospitality industry within the state of Florida. In this capacity he was responsible for the daily operations for a district that regulated over 15,000 public food service and public lodging establishments within a seven-county region in west central Florida. He is also a military veteran and former law enforcement officer. After 21 years with the department, he transitioned to higher education and the private sector.
He is currently a certified SCORE mentor and independent business consultant specializing in licensing, regulation, and compliance within the hospitality industry in the state of Florida. He is also an adjunct business professor with over 10 years of teaching experience in higher education teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes to both undergraduate and graduate students. He also serves as a dissertation chair and committee member. He is currently a contributing faculty member at Walden University in the PhD Management program for the College of Management and Technology.
Dr. Perez belongs to several professional associations and strongly believes in giving back to the community. He is a member of the International Leadership Association, The American Economic Association, and The Corporate Finance Institute. He is also a board member on the city of Lakeland, Florida civil service board and has served on several non-profit boards in his community.
He is a Quality Matters (QM) peer reviewer and a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Leadership Education (JOLE) and has published several research papers in peer reviewed journals in the areas of ethical leadership, global leadership, the influence of culture on leadership, and the relationship between leadership styles and employee turnover.
Dr. Perez received his associate’s degree from Glendale Community College, his Bachelor of Arts in business from Ottawa University, his Bachelor of Science in business with a minor in economics from the University of South Florida, and his MBA with a specialization in finance from Nova Southeastern University. He also received his doctorate in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University with a minor in human resource development. He received his post-doctoral certificate in global leadership from Colorado Technical University.
