In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Yasenchak holds a doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of Maine and has been teaching graduate counseling courses since 1996. His area of expertise is clinical mental health counseling. Dr. Yasenchak also holds a masters degree in philosophy which he also taught from 1982 to 1985. He has been a practicing clinical counselor and supervisor in a variety of clinical settings since 1985. His experience includes inner city work with co-occurring disorders, university student development, and twenty years as clinical supervisor for a Native American counseling facility. He currently provides consultation and training services, and is a contributing faculty member of Walden University.
Dr. Yasenchak's primary areas of interest are in mental health and addictions counseling. He also has specific interests in spirituality and religion in the practice of counseling, as well as in digital ethics.
As a member of the American Counseling Association, Dr. Yasenchak has served as the chair of the American Counseling Association North Atlantic Region and president of the Maine Counseling Association. He is a member of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and the Association for Ethical, Religious, and Values Issues in Counseling. He serves on the editorial board of Counseling and Values. Dr. Yasenchak is involved with various state organizations including the Co-occurring Collaborative Serving Maine and the State of Maine Substance Abuse Services Commission.
Dr. Yasenchak has presented on his topics of interest at many regional and national conferences. He provides training and consultation services to counselors and various counseling organizations. In 2013, he traveled to India with a small delegation of counselor educators where he met with students and faculty at several counselor training programs and delivered presentations at several conferences.
