Dr. John Cowan began teaching after receiving a degree in multicultural teacher education from the University of New Mexico. After serving as a 1st grade and 4th grade classroom teacher, he began work in the field of educational technology. Dr. Cowan's work in this area included creating technology-based curriculum and staff development experiences in computer applications, instructional video and instructional design. During this same period Dr. Cowan enrolled in a hybrid face-to-face/online masters programs in educational technology. After completing his masters, and then doctorate, Dr. Cowan transitioned into university teaching by engaging in the development of hybrid cohort communities of students pursuing technology education degrees at the University of New Mexico, Sacramento State University and Northern Illinois University. Dr. Cowan came to Walden University in 2014.
