In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Guzman-Rea has been working in higher education for 19 years and teaching for 16 years. She currently serves as an Assistant Dean for Diversity & Director of the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center at the University of Rochester. Dr. Guzman-Rea has previously worked as an Academic Advisor & Adjunct Faculty at both the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the University of Rochester. Dr. Guzman-Rea is most passionate about teaching and practicing cultural humility and restorative justice. In her administrative roles, she enjoys addressing and responding to bias incidents, teaching about implicit bias, macro social work, creating needs assessments, and administrating program evaluations and climate surveys. Dr. Guzman-Rea also has a love affair with APA and has served on several doctoral student committees. Lastly, Dr. Guzman-Rea recently wrote two chapters in edited books that have been published!
