In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. James McMullen received his Ph.D in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a licensed school counselor in the state of Virginia and National Certified Counselor (NCC). Dr. McMullen is a Contributing Faculty member with Walden University and a School Counselor fpr Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout where he also served as program director of the MS in School Counseling Program. Prior to that, he has worked in the public school, college, and hospital settings. Dr. McMullen serves as Chair of the Chapter Development Committee for Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Honor Society and Co-Chair of the Mentoring Work Group of the ACES School Counseling Interest Network.
