In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Hazel Dennison has more than 30 years of nursing education and continuing professional development experience in academia, government and corporate positions. Dr. Dennison has taught at Walden University since 2011 in the BSN and MSN program as faculty and served as chair and a member on DNP committees. She is currently an associate professor in the RN to BSN program within the School of Nursing. Dr. Dennison received the faculty Daisy award in 2025. She is the president-elect of the Sigma Phi Nu chapter at Walden University.
Previously, Dr Dennison held the position of Director of Continuing Nursing Education and the Director of Health Information Management Continuing Education for Walden University. Her continuing professional development positions include planning and reviewing activities for medical, nursing, pharmacy and other health professions for universities, associations and Medicare subsidiaries.
Her clinical background includes extensive nephrology expertise as a nursing administrator, family nurse practitioner, Director of Education Services and Quality Improvement Director for Medicare. In her volunteer work, she has held positions within her state nurses association, in nephrology nursing, the NP Foundation and in her state medical reserve corp.
Her research background includes multiple ESA studies as well as nephrology and nursing education related research. She has lectured both locally and nationally and has written several chapters on nephrology and kidney disease in a Medical-Surgical Textbook as well as a chapter on QI and research in a DNP textbook.
