In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Hanna Laneuskaya Lainas received her doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015. Dr. Lainas has five years of experience as an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor in NC and GA and has a certificate in Addictions Counseling. At Walden, Dr, Lainas is a Contributing Faculty in the Mental Health Counseling Program. Dr. Lainas has over 10 years of clinical experience which includes work as a Program Director for Intensive-in-Home Services for children and adolescents and an owner of a Private Practice. In her private practice she specializes in trauma work with individuals, in addition she provides family counseling to adolescents and their families. Dr. Lainas’ research interests include experiential learning and counselor identity development; mindfulness interventions for anxiety; counselor wellness; ethical use of technology; multicultural competency development; social advocacy.
