Dr. George Beals has been a counselor for more than 20 years. He received his Master's in Counseling from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1995 and his doctorate in Counselor Education from Mississippi State University in 2007. He has served as a counselor in multiple agencies and as the county administrator for mental health services in Webster County, Mississippi. He has been a counselor educator for the last 11 years. Dr. Beals teaches primarily in the Doctoral Field Experiences Classes for Walden.
Current research interests for Dr. Beals include: integrated breath therapy; hypnosis; LGBTQ+ issues in counseling; the impact of poverty; and counselor self-awareness. These interests have roots in experiential therapies and experiences that he uses with his clients. He has additional training in Integrated Breath Therapy, hypnosis, EMDR, Stategic Family Counseling, the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and the Enneagram.
Dr. Beals is a frequent presenter at counseling conferences including the Mississippi Counseling Association, the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. He maintains membership in multiple divisions of the American Counseling Association.
