In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Felicia L. Odum Wilson, PhD, MBA, LCSW is a Senior Contributing Faculty member at Walden University in the School of Social Work. Her formal teaching and field of study are social work and human services, with an emphasis on clinical practice, social policy, professional skills development, and applied ethics. Dr. Wilson brings more than 20 years of combined teaching and professional experience across higher education, clinical social work, healthcare administration, and human services leadership.
At Walden University, Dr. Wilson has served as Senior Contributing Faculty since 2014, teaching graduate-level social work courses and Skills Lab. In this role, she facilitates student learning through person-centered, inclusive, and practice-informed instruction; maintains consistent instructional presence; provides timely and substantive feedback; and supports student persistence and success in alignment with Walden’s Community of Care and STARRS Evaluation Rubric.
Dr. Wilson’s primary areas of research interest include caregiver stress and resilience, professional burnout and sustainability, social and emotional learning, role balance among helping professionals, and barriers to academic and professional success for adult learners. Her subject matter expertise includes psychopathology and diagnosis, clinical skills development, social policy analysis, trauma-informed practice, ethics, and culturally responsive care.
Her professional background includes licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Georgia and ownership of a private clinical practice providing evidence-based behavioral health services via telehealth and in-person care. Dr. Wilson has held leadership and faculty roles at multiple institutions, including program director and associate professor positions, and has extensive experience in curriculum development, accreditation support, faculty mentoring, and adult learning design.
Dr. Wilson’s major professional accomplishments include sustained excellence in teaching as evidenced by strong student outcomes and consistently high SELT scores; the publication of books and peer-reviewed manuscripts focused on caregiving and professional well-being; numerous national and regional conference presentations; and contributions to curriculum development and academic program growth. Her work reflects a deep commitment to student-centered education, professional integrity, and Walden University’s mission of positive social change.
