In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Fazeeda Abdur-Rahman is a graduate of Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services, with a doctorate degree in social work; concentration in mental health. She is an alumni of Howard University where she earned her master's of social work (MSW) degree and York College, where she earned her bachelor's of psychology (BA) degree. She is a licensed social worker with New York State that provides program consulting in the areas of program development, program evaluation, and education workshops about women's wellness. Her area of expertise is intimate partner violence (IPV), particularly utilizing complementary alternative treatments of yoga and Christian based spirituality with conventional psychotherapy to treat IPV-related trauma. Dr. Abdur-Rahman is passionate about helping women to overcome trauma and other negative effects on women's well-being, so that women can become the best they can be and experience fullness and joy in their lives. She is interested to create and sustain programs focused on women's wellness: mentally, physically, and spiritually. Dr. Abdur-Rahman's professional work experience includes program development assistance to faith-based organizations to expand their organizations, oversight of social service staff involved with Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and the foster care system, as well as direct service provision to children and adults presenting with a broad spectrum of mental health needs. Her research background includes compiling literature reviews for researchers, while her own research has examined various factors associated with domestic violence, including theories explaining abuse, domestic violence laws, spirituality, yoga, and innovation adoption in social work organizations. In addition to program consulting, Dr. Abdur-Rahman works as a therapist providing mental health treatment to clients and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor with City University of New York and New York Institute of Technology, where she teaches social science courses.
