In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Dorothy Goulart has been a clinical social worker since 1987 and earned her Doctor of Social Work at Walden University in 2018. She has been a part-time faculty member for Capella university since January 2021 and has taught onsite at Springfield College School of Social Work as well as advising graduate students. She recently joined Walden University in October 2023 as a Contributing Faculty member in the College of Social & Behavioral Health, Barbara Solomon School of Social work.
Dr. Goulart has held several clinical positions in multiple settings and cities that included non-profit social service agencies, a hospital based mental health clinic, nursing homes and a contractor for the Department of Defense working with active -duty military. She was the director of a mental health & substance abuse clinic in Norfolk, VA, and part of a group private practice for 9 years. She has 15 years of experience supervising interns from a variety of MSW programs as well as clinicians for licensure and staff at various mental health clinics.
She is trained in a variety of evidenced-based practices and has a specialty in trauma. As a Certified Play Therapist- Supervisor, she is a member of the Association for Play Therapy and the Minnesota Clinical Society and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). She has served on the NASW-MN Board and Chair of the Ethics Committee and a member of the Licensing Committee.
