In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Lewis is a distinguished licensed professional counselor and a nationally certified counselor with a rich background in Multicultural & Diversity Issues in Counseling, Spiritual & Religious Issues in Counseling, Counselor Education, and Clinical Counseling. Her passion lies in researching and addressing systemic problems affecting the holistic functioning of African American youth and families, and in seeking to further the work in the social justice arena that will impact those systems in significant ways.
In her role as a Contributing Faculty member at Walden University, Dr. Lewis acknowledges the profound responsibility of imparting knowledge to her students. Simultaneously, she challenges them to discern the evolving landscape of our society. Recognizing the dynamic shifts in our world becomes crucial, as it prompts contemplation about those seeking counseling and emphasizes the imperative to acknowledge and comprehend the systemic issues shaping an individual’s identity. Dr. Lewis derives fulfillment from guiding students on their academic journey, drawing upon her extensive experience in diverse academic settings.
Beyond academia, Dr. Lewis is a dedicated private practice clinician and is the founder of the nonprofit organization, In Her Honor. The organization’s mission is to empower African American youth to realize their potential by fostering a caring and supportive environment, emphasizing mental, emotional, social, and behavioral health.
In her personal life, Dr. Lewis shares a fulfilling partnership in life and ministry with the Rev. Dr. Edward K. Lewis, Sr., a hospice chaplain, and pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Together, they cherish the blessing of a loving family, including four incredible children and four phenomenal grandchildren. Dr. Lewis continues to make a lasting impact through her professional, academic, and philanthropic endeavors.
