In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Carrie DuPont is a distinguished clinician, educator, and advocate in the mental health field. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Colorado Denver, a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University. With over ten years of experience working with adult learners, she has taught addiction counseling courses and supervised students in Colorado.
Dr. DuPont is an adjunct faculty member at Walden University’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, an Associate Faculty member at Yorkville University in Canada, and the Clinical Field Experience Coordinator at Post University in Connecticut. In her clinical practice spanning 15 years, she has excelled in diverse settings—from inpatient facilities to private practice. Transitioning to telemental health eight years ago, she is a Board board-certified telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH) and actively uses various online platforms to extend her reach.
She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Addictions Counselor in Colorado, with additional LPC licenses in MI, CT, and VT and LMFT licenses in CO and TX. As an EMDR-trained therapist, Dr. DuPont provides compassionate therapy to individuals and families while offering clinical supervision and consultation to other professionals.
Dr. DuPont is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Addiction Professionals, the National Board for Certified Counselors, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Chi Sigma Iota, and the National Society for Leadership and Success. She is also a dedicated advocate for online counseling and license reciprocity, working to improve access to quality mental health care across state lines.
