Carolyn Hart received her PhD in Nursing Science at the University of Missouri Kansas City in May of 2012. She currently serves as Dean of Health Professions at a small liberal arts university where established BSN, MSN, DP, Health Science, Nutrition and Dietetics programs. Dr. Hart began her nursing career in a trauma neuro intensive care unit where she was a strong patient and family advocate. Following six years as a travel nurse in various intensive care units across the country, Dr. Hart moved to education. After teaching at the associate, bachelor, and master’s degree levels in Missouri, she moved to Pennsylvania to begin a new nursing program at a liberal arts college. Following this, she accepted a role as a chair of nursing overseeing BSN, MSN, APRN, DNP, and PhD programs in Miami, Florida. She moved to her current role in 2020. Professionally, Dr. Hart serves as a mentor in Sigma Theta Tau International’s Experienced Academic Leadership Academy and also sits on Sigma’s advisory board for the Center for Educational Excellence. Dr. Hart also is a reviewer for the Journal for Nursing Education. With co-author Dr. Pegge Bell, she recently published a graduate level textbook titled Advancing Nursing Practice: Exploring Opportunities for Clinicians, Educators, and Leaders.
