In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Carlos M. Del Rio received his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with a specialty in Couples Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2007. He is currently a contributing faculty at Walden University. Dr. Del Rio has experience teaching research methods, assessment in counseling, theories of personality, human development, student development, and couples and family; group dynamics and therapeutic factors, systematic diagnosis skills, and person-centered supervision in clinical mental health counseling and couples and family therapy. He also has experience in student affairs administration, program administration and expansion, and policy development for higher education institutions.
Dr. Del Rio has membership in Phi Kappa Alpha (education), Chi Sigma Iota (counseling), Phi Sigma Tau (philosophy) and ACA, ACES, CSI, APA, AGPA and serves in several editorial boards for academic journals. He is the author of the Spiritual Typology Inventory, and has published several papers in various academic journals. His research includes spirituality, and training groups for counselors. His interests include ultra-running, ancient Roman history, Jesuit spirituality, and Aristotelian and Thomistic philosophy.
Dr. Del Rio currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
