Candace N. Carter is an assistant professor at Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS. She holds a bachelor of social work (BSW), a master of public health (behavioral health promotion and education) and a PhD in social work from Jackson State University. Carter has nearly six years of experience in higher education having served as an adjunct instructor at Jackson State and Belhaven Universities; and as a visiting assistant professor at Jackson State University. Carter is a licensed social worker and has worked in the following settings: nursing home, mental health, and child welfare. Her research interests are as follows: teenage pregnancy, child welfare, gerontology, and maternal incarceration. She is married and have a daughter, Raelyn Frances
