In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Barbara Niedz has been an RN since 1971 and resides in New Jersey. Over her 45+ year career, she has served in leadership positions in NJ hospitals and in managed care. She has been on the faculty at Walden since 2006, serving initially in the MSN program, and in the DNP program since its inception. In 2017, Dr. Niedz was appointed senior contributing faculty. At Walden, Dr. Niedz has participated in CCNE preparation through the years, and teaches primarily in 8700, 8701, 8702, 8703, the DNP capstone process of mentoring and completion, having supported over 75 completed projects in 8700 and 8701, and over 40 in 8702, and 8703. Dr. Niedz has served on just one or two PhD committees. Dr. Niedz participated in curriculum revisions at Walden including the revamp of the data management course (8211) as a contractor.
In addition to her work at Walden, she has served on the faculty at Rutgers, as adjunct from 2013 to 2019 and as full-time Assistant Professor from 2019 to June, 2025 when she retired, and still has volunteer work that is current. At Rutgers, Dr. Niedz taught a course entitled Management of Healthcare Data for the DNP program, offered statistical consultation to students completing the DNP capstone project, and taught courses on DNP project planning, implementation and dissemination. While at Rutgers, Dr. Niedz participated in an advanced practice curriculum revision, based on the competency based AACN essentIals. Dr Niedz provides consulting services through her independent consulting firm, Quality Outcomes, LLC.
