In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Barbara E. Barrett received her Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University, a Doctorate in Nursing practice – D.N.P. at the University of Miami, and a Master of Science/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner – M.S.N./A.R.N.P. at Florida International University. She currently serves as a Core Faculty in the College of Nursing at Walden University.
Dr. Barrett’s academic experience includes both administrative and faculty roles. She teaches or has taught graduate and under-graduate courses at Walden University and at several other south Florida institutions. She has also taught Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at all levels, Leadership, Business in Nursing, Nursing Concepts, Health Care Trends in Nursing, Introduction to Nursing, Professional Nursing, and Nursing Practicum at various universities. Dr. Barrett has served as an academic consultant for higher education institutions. She is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing mental health and wellness services in her community.
Dr. Barrett’s research interests involve assisting vulnerable populations in their day to day living, especially in the area of transitioning through life. She has been involved in several research opportunities involving foster care, autism, and nursing care/education. She has a number of publications and presentations on mental health and wellness related research and clinical practice projects.
