In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Barbara Archer brings both a practice and academic background to the classroom with over 35 years’ experience in healthcare management and consulting and over 25 years teaching experience in business, commercial, and academic settings. Her teaching experience includes on-ground teaching, online teaching, and program and course design. Areas of expertise are public administration, business administration, and healthcare administration. Research interests include public administration, transformation in public organizations, and healthcare administration.
Her management career includes middle management, upper management, and executive positions in healthcare and healthcare policy making organizations. She has over 10 yeas’ experience as a management consultant working with financially distressed organizational turn-arounds. She is familiar with private sector for-profit and not-for-profit organizations as well as governmental agencies. Her academic leadership experience includes Chair of a Healthcare Administration program.
Dr. Archer holds a Doctorate in Public Administration (DPA) from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA; an MBA from University of Portland, Portland, OR; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Willamette University, Salem, OR. She also holds a Master Black Belt Certificate from Villanova University.
At Walden University, Dr. Archer is a Contributing Faculty member working with doctoral dissertation students.
