In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Ayse Ozcan-Buckley received her Ph.D. in Public Administration from Inonu University, Turkey in 2008. She is currently an instructor and member of the doctoral committee in the College of Health Sciences and Public Policy at Walden University. She is a new member beginning in September 2023 at Walden University. She has been an adjunct faculty member at SPDC, Michigan State University since 2016. Dr Ozcan-Buckley started her career as a research assistant in Turkey. Her educational background, including BS, MS and PhD, is all based on political science and public administration. Her Ph.D. thesis was on Turkey's urban and environmental policies and the role of the universities under the mentorship of a professor in the Department of Economics at METU (Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey). Her master's research focused on urban policies regarding human rights and social policies while being honored with the "Public Administration Award" by Ankara University in Turkey.
She completed her postdoctoral research on ecological planning in the context of public policy at Michigan State University in 2012. She has been a research fellow at MSU several times. She specializes in the areas of urbanization, environmental policy and local governments. She has 14 years of teaching and research experience in Turkey and Michigan, USA on environmental issues and sustainability within the urban context. Dr. Buckley has taught research methodology in social studies, environmental studies, urban politics and public policy, climate change and global policies at undergraduate and graduate levels. She is experienced in designing project frameworks, working with NGOs, managing international projects, and consulting with institutions and research companies at various levels. She has a number of publications, presentations and research projects in the field of environmental and urban studies.
