Andie Tatkon-coker

Dr. Andrea L. Tatkon-Coker received her DBA in Finance, Health Administration, and Management at Nova-Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in May of 2007. She received her MSN with a clinical specialty in community health and a minor in adult education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland in 1980. She received her BSN in 1975 from the University of Maine in Portland-Gorham, Maine. She currently serves as a part-time core faculty member for the School of Nursing at Walden University and has been teaching at Walden University since May of 2008. Dr. Tatkon-Coker has been responsible for core courses and has taught courses in the specialization of leadership and management. She has been in the healthcare profession for over 43 years and has been in the teaching profession for over 38 years. She has taught public health nursing, statistics 1, finance, managerial accounting, health care ethics, clinical nursing courses and physiology and anatomy and various continuing education courses in quality assurance, health administration and finance and human resources. Professionally, Dr. Tatkon-Coker has worked as a researcher in a variety of areas including rotational shift work and near accidents by nurses and rural health practitioner retention issues. She has been a contributor to several nursing books and has presented at several professional meetings. She also has been a national delegate for the State of Iowa for the ANA and SOPHE organizations. She completed her Adult and Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification and is Board Certified by the ANCC in mental health across the lifespan.
Dr. Tatkon-Coker's clinical experience includes extensive experience as a clinician, an administrator, a consultant and an educator. In her doctoral studies, she combined concentrations in healthcare administration, management, and finance in order to integrate the diverse arena involved in providing healthcare. Dr. Tatkon-Coker's goal now is to apply the experience and education with an ongoing research agenda, teaching and consulting in the business of healthcare provision, either at the national or international arena or in the academic, public or private sector. She also wishes to continue with the clinical practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatric and Mental Health Practice. She will continue to be a lifetime learner and add to her body of knowledge while adding to the professions’ body of knowledge in the area of healthcare provision.
