In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Novak holds a PhD in Public Health: Community Health and Education from Walden University, a MSN-ED from Aspen University, a MS in Health Sciences from Chapman University, BSN from Graceland University, and an ADN from the University of Maine/Presque Isle. Dr. Novak has been involved in Adult Education since 1991 in various positions ranging from Staff Development Educator, and Administrator for Continuing Professional Development, as well as teaching in Academic Nursing Schools via distance learning.
Dr. Novak is a member of the following professional nursing organizations: American Nurses Association, National League of Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association, North Carolina Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau
Dr. Novak was named to the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina, and has received other local and state awards such as the Lifetime Achievement Award from NCENA, and Staff Educator from CSHET.
Dr. Novak is a Fellow in the Academy of Emergency Nurses (FAEN) and served on their first Board of Directors (2005) and is Board Certified in Nursing Professional Development by the Association for Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC).
Dr. Novak has served in various roles for both peer reviewed and non peer reviewed journals: Journal of the Emergency Nurses Association (assistant Editor, Editor for specialty issue on Geriatrics, Board Member, reviewer), Journal of the National Area Health Education Center (Board Member, reviewer, and co-Editor for one issue), Aspen University Journal (online publication, peer reviewed)-peer reviewer and APA editor.
Dr. Novak is a published author for a variety of textbooks/chapters/articles related to emergency nursing and nursing professional development as well as has presented at the state and national levels on a variety of topics.
