Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Andrea's professional journey has been nothing short of unconventional. Following high school, she found her path in the world of nursing, serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse on a medical/surgical unit and later as the head nurse of a family practice physician. While honing her people skills in healthcare, she quickly recognized the importance of further education for professional growth.
Stepping away from the expected route of pursuing an RN degree, she embarked on a transformative educational journey at St. Norbert College, earning a BA in Education. For 18 years, she passionately contributed to education, teaching diverse grade levels in traditional Wisconsin K-12 public schools and online charter schools.
Fueling her commitment to continuous learning, she pursued and successfully obtained an MBA from the University of the People. Combining her background in education and business, Andrea transitioned into higher education in 2023. Here, she discovered a new passion for supporting adult learners in their academic journeys. She first served in the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) at Walden University. Her daily duties included connecting students with academic resources to support their success and overall well-being. While serving in OASIS, she also worked as a contributing faculty member in the General Education program within the College of Interdisciplinary and Undergraduate Studies, teaching students in the first-course Academy sections of Living and Thriving in a Technological World.
Today, Andrea continues her mission to empower adult learners as a core faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program within the College of Interdisciplinary and Undergraduate Studies. In this role, she leverages her diverse background in healthcare, education, and business to help students achieve their academic and professional goals.
