In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Cancemi grew up in Staten Island, New York and completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Albany, a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education at Florida International University, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) at the University of the Cumberlands.
Since entering the field, Dr. Cancemi has worked with adults and adolescents in a variety of residential substance abuse treatment settings and she has experience working with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic statuses. In addition to her expertise in treating clients struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues, Dr. Cancemi also works with uniform and military personnel as well as first responders such as police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and correction officers struggling with the same. Dr. Cancemi is a a Florida State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a Florida State Qualified Supervisor (QS), for registered clinical mental health interns pursuing licensure, an Oregon Licensed professional Counselor (LPC), an Oregon Supervisor Candidate, a Master’s Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP), an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC), a Certified Rapid Resolution Therapy Practitioner (RRT), a certified Accelerated Resolution Therapy practitioner (ART), a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (NBCCH), a preferred provider in the HealthSmart World Trade Center Health Program Network, a member of the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS), and a member of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ITSS). Dr. Cancemi is currently training to be a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapist with PESI.
Dr. Cancemi has been teaching graduate level mental health counseling students since 2021.
