Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

The job market looks promising for professionals who hold degrees in healthcare administration.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of medical and health services managers is growing much faster than average for all occupations. The BLS projects growth of 29% between 2023 and 2033, which translates to an additional 160,600 jobs.1
With this industry growth and your passion for healthcare administration, you may be well-positioned to find the career you’re looking for. An advanced college degree, such as a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), can help you gather knowledge and skills you can use to pursue your professional goals.
You’ll find people with MHA degrees working in leadership roles in hospitals, physician's offices, government agencies, nursing and residential care facilities, and other organizations. Leaders in healthcare administration hold rewarding and challenging jobs as hospital administrators, clinical managers, health information managers, nursing home administrators, and more.
In this rapidly growing field, the healthcare industry needs professionals who are equipped to lead healthcare teams and manage administration challenges during times of change. Here are four trends driving the demand for healthcare administrators:
1. Growing Healthcare Industry
Healthcare is one of the largest industries in the U.S., employing about 16.3 million people in 2022.2 As employers look to fill jobs, they will need administrators with the skills to manage and supervise growing and diverse teams.
2. More People in Need of Healthcare
One of the biggest reasons for the growing healthcare industry—and the subsequent demand for healthcare administrators—is the aging population. By 2030, all people in the baby-boom generation—approximately 73 million people—will be 65 or older.3 Healthcare needs can increase with age, creating a demand for providers and healthcare administrators.
3. Changing Regulatory Environment
From the Affordable Care Act to value-based care, changes in healthcare law and regulation are constant. Hospitals and other medical facilities need administrators who can navigate complex and evolving healthcare systems. Healthcare managers and administrators play an increasingly important role in keeping hospitals compliant and elevating organizational performance.
4. Technology Advancements
Administrators with healthcare informatics skills and knowledge are needed as technology use in the healthcare industry expands. The BLS notes, “As a result, more health information technologists will be needed to analyze these vast quantities of data and offer insight to help make informed decisions.”4 The healthcare industry will need medical and health services managers to help informaticists and others manage data across the healthcare industry.
